andes of lima
The Andes of Lima are absolutely different from the central or southern Andes. Mostly dry during the whole year can be visited any time, except in the rainy months of January to March, which makes us not able to visit.
Starting at sea level we will reach close to 9,000 ft elevation, passing across the lower valley surrounded by dry mountains, in a continuous climb by gravel roads to finally reach the Andean rural lifestyle.
WHAT KIND OF PHOTOS WE DO?
Mostly landscapes, but sometimes you find people, birds or things, so consider using a tele or a macro lens.
WHEN TO GO?
Rains in the Andes end usually in March, so in April, we may begin to drive up safely to the Andes until (with luck) December.
SUGGESTED ITINERARY:
Leave the hotel at 6:00 am. We will drive east. First stop to drink a coffee or take a quick meal at Cieneguilla.
Then, we will continue climbing to get to Antioquia and Cochachuayco villages to shoot at the streets of the village and make a short hike by the local Inca Trail.
Then, we will continue climbing to Langui village located close to 9,000 ft. Once there we will spend time shooting local Andean views and eating the snacks and sandwiches we bring on the van.
After 4 pm we will be driving down to Antioquia village again, stop for eating and continue our trip back to Lima city.
WHAT TO TAKE?
Most of the trip is made in a sunny place, a bit cold or windy maybe up there but not freeze at all. So sunscreen and a wind vest will be enough.
If you have some food limitations you may bring your own. We deliver in our truck or van some light food as sandwiches, fruit, and water, we will be in a land with few public services until we reach in the afternoon the village of Antioquia where we may lunch some good local food (don´t expect anything fancy).
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?
This photo trip is done in a single day, leaving the city around 6:30 am to be at the Andean zone around 10 am leaving at 5 pm, and arriving around 7 pm.
OPTIONS: We may extend the trip to 2 days sleeping in some village (very basic services) to witness the everyday life of inhabitants of the Andes.
