LIMA CITY

Lima, founded in 1535, has withstood numerous earthquakes, the most devastating happened in 1760, leaving only a few buildings from its early years intact. Subsequently, significant transformations emerged around the decades of 1870, 1920, and 1960, marking periods of prosperity.
Since the 1940s, Limenian families began to move to the districts of San Isidro, Miraflores, and Barranco. During the 1970s, the city center of Lima was predominantly inhabited by immigrants from various parts of the country, who start to live in the grand old mansions, housing multiple families and thus reshaping the city’s identity. Since then, there have been minimal changes, with efforts in the past two decades, focusing on the restoration of Lima’s architectural heritage.

This is a city walk to the most iconic places and to explore the city. And maybe picking a very tasty sandwich or some amazing dish to complete the experience.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

San Martin Square, Rimac River Bridge, Santo Domingo, San Francisco Sq., Jiron de La Union, Main Square (Plaza Mayor), among other places (maybe the market, a museum, an old building).
Recommended Hours: 7am or earlier, 9am, 3pm

What kind of photos we may take?

Architecture, city streets, people, landscape, and/or local activities.

What lenses are best for this trip?

For enthusiasts a smartphone or a basic camera works enough, but if you bring many lenses here are the suggestions:
A 85 mm, 105 mm for shooting people.
A zoom 24-70 / 24-105 / 35-150 mm good for multi use.
Additionals a tele and a wide angle lenses.
On sunny days a ND2 or polarized filter, and a ND16 or ND1000 if we are in a season of sunsets and you want to shoot some long exposures. Tripod recommended.

When is best?

The trip can be done for the whole year.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO BRING?

Basically in summer (Jan-Apr) you must use sunscreen and fresh clothes. Lima temperatures are on average 24-32C.
During winter (Jul-Oct) long sleeves and a wind vest for temperatures of 12-16C. Usually, it doesn´t rain too much (except in Aug-Sep) but bringing an extra coat for cold may be helpful.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

This is a photo trip in street areas, we will walk slowly, in case you are not able to walk too much please tell us to modify the original plan or to consider hiring a driver.
