Paracas & Ballestas Islands Photo day Tour

05:00 Departure from Lima We leave early to catch the morning light. Driving straight south along the Pan-American Highway, we’ll reach Paracas around 8:00 am.

09:00 Boat Ride to Ballestas Islands Board a local boat for a two-hour ride to the famous Ballestas Islands. This is a paradise for photographers: dramatic rock formations, colonies of seabirds, playful sea lions, and sometimes even penguins. We’ll return to the port around 11:00 am.

Note: If you prefer, we can skip the boat ride and dedicate more time to photographing inside the Reserve. Sometimes the conditions of the sea doesn´t permit us to navigate.

11:30 Reserve Exploration After a quick snack, we head into the Paracas National Reserve. Our route includes Salinas de Otuma, the cliffs of Zárate Point, Mendieta Beach, and the fishing bay of  Laguna Grande — each stop offering unique landscapes and wildlife to capture.

16:00 Lunch in Paracas Back in Paracas, we’ll enjoy a late lunch (meals not included). If there is still time we may go to Lagunillas viewpoint or just stay some extra minutes at the beach.

18:00 Departure to Lima We leave Paracas in the evening, arriving back at your hotel around 22:00, with memory cards full of coastal and wildlife images.

Two days Paracas & Ballestas Islands experience

Day 1 – Desert & Reserve Landscapes Leave Lima at dawn and head straight to Paracas. Capture desert cliffs, shimmering lagoons, fishing boats, and maybe flamingos inside the Reserve. In the afternoon, settle in and chase golden light at Lagunillas viewpoint — or add adventure with dune buggies and oases near Paracas.

Day 2 – Sunrise & Wildlife Start with sunrise at the striking Red Beach, then sail to the Ballestas Islands for seabirds, sea lions, and dramatic rock formations. Back, at noon, enjoy coastal leisure and lunch before returning to Lima or add some activities, such as witnessing scallop harvesting, or go to Tambo Colorado Inca ruins near Pisco .

what kind of photos we MAY take?

Landscapes, some birds, people, and local activities

what lenses are best for this trip?

A wide angle for landscapes (under 24 mm).
A tele if you want to shoot birds or some action (200 mm +).
A macro if you like to shoot textures and any kind of details.
A zoom 24-70 / 24-105 / 35-150 mm good for multi use.
On sunny days a ND2 or polarized filter, and a ND16 or ND1000 if we are in a season of sunsets and you want to shoot some long exposure. Tripod recommended.

when is best?

The trip can be done for the whole year. Best from November to May. The other months could be cloudy.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO BRING?

Basically in summer (Dec-Apr) you must use sunscreen and fresh clothes. Paracas temperatures are on average 24-32C and very sunny days.
During winter (Jul-Oct) long sleeves and a wind vest for temperatures of 16-18C on the day but mostly clear, at night temperature descends to under 15 C. In these months is common to have some days with very strong winds, reducing the options of shooting and avoiding the navigation. If that happens we must make some changes to itinerary. And is helpful to have a windvest.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

This is a photo trip in natural and protected areas, we will make stops along the way to hike a bit to take a look around, is not more than 30 minutes each time. In case you are not able to walk too much please tell us to modify the original plan.
