THE LIMA city BAY

callao - magdalena- chorrillos

If you have already visited the main Centre of Lima and the classic district of Barranco, and want to visit some other spots in the city, this is the best choice.
Since its foundation in 1535, some small villages and farms have become districts. Oldest ones are those facing the ocean, so for this trip we will visit some of them: El Morro in Chorrillos, at the south side of the bay, from where we can have a citysight and an ancient fishing port of the valley since pre hispanic times, La Punta in the northern extreme side of the bay where is located the main port of Peru and the market of Magdalena, located in one of the oldest districts of Lima and my best market choice in Lima.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

08:30 Pick up from hotel.
09:00 First stop is in the south side of the bay at fishermen market of Chorrillos and El Morro to get a wide view of the city.
10:30 Then, we move to Magdalena Market, we´ll take a walk inside the market and maybe try some juice or snack there. Near this area is Pueblo Libre, a kindish Barranco with one of the most classic Lima old traditional restaurant and Pisco producer: El Queirolo.
12:00 We continue the day going to El Callao, brief stop at the old centre, to go next to La Punta
for shooting some sea birds at La Arenilla wetland and the boats. La Punta is another good spot for lunch and seafood specialties.
14:00 Drive back to Miraflores, we may do a brief stop at some viewpoint of the bay.
15:00 End of trip.

Note: Timing is not precise, we could start early at sunrise or noon, arranging the order of places depending the season, personal interests, weather conditions or time spend on each place. Let us know.

What kind of photos we may take?

Architecture, city streets, people, landscape, long exposition, and/or local activities.

What lenses are best for this trip?

For enthusiasts a smartphone or a basic camera works enough, but if you bring many lenses here are the suggestions:
A 85 mm, 105 mm for shooting people.
A zoom 24-70 / 24-105 / 35-150 mm good for multi use.
Additionals a tele and a wide angle lenses.
On sunny days a ND2 or polarized filter, and a ND16 or ND1000 if we are in a season of sunsets and you want to shoot some long exposures. Tripod recommended.

When is best?

The trip can be done for the whole year.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO BRING?

Basically in summer (Jan-Apr) you must use sunscreen and fresh clothes. Lima temperatures are on average 24-32C.
During winter (Jul-Oct) long sleeves and a wind vest for temperatures of 12-16C. Usually, it doesn´t rain too much (except in Aug-Sep) but bringing an extra coat for rain or cold may be helpful.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

This is a photo trip in street areas, we will walk slowly, anyway if cannot walk too much please tell us to adapt the itinerary.
