Chazuta cultural heritage in the Jungle
Leaving Tarapoto by the main highway, you will reach the bridge that crosses the Mayo River. From there, you have to follow the road that follows the course of the river, soon you will meet the Great Huallaga, another river that will carry its waters to the Amazonas River. The Huallaga is not a common river; on its way thousands of human activities take place every day: fishing, agriculture, trade, among many others. But the town of Chazuta has something special: things forgotten by most of the towns of the region have been preserved, and I could say that they can compete with Lamas for the Quechua cultural legacy. In the area, ancient funerary pottery was found, and clay is worked with a modern technique that imitates the design and structure of traditional pottery, creating its own cultural distinction used also in textiles. On the other hand, there is a lot of cacao cultivation, and the community has managed to generate an association to transform it into paste and chocolate.

Saliendo de Tarapoto por la carretera se llega al puente que cruza el Río Mayo, , a partir de ahí se sigue el desvío que sigue el curso del río que se encontrará muy pronto con el gran Huallaga, otro río que irá llevando sus aguas hasta el río Amazonas.
El Huallaga no es cualquier río, es uno grande, donde se realizan miles de actividades humanas cada día: pesca agricultura, comercio, entre muchas más, pero el poblado de Chazuta tiene algo especial, ahi se han conservado costumbres olvidadas por la mayoría de los poblados y se diría que compite con Lamas por el legado cultural quechua, en la zona se encontraron vasijas funerarias y se trabaja el barro con una técnica moderna pero que imita en su diseño y estructura las vasijas tradicionales de manera que han creado un distintivo cultural propio, por otro lado hay mucha siembra de cacao y la comunidad ha podido generar una asociación para transformar el cacao en pasta y chocolate, si vas para Tarapoto no te olvides de anotar este destino en tu experiencia.
