BARRANCO STREETS

Since its foundation, Lima has maintained a strong bond with the sea. As the city grew, richest families established the village of Chorrillos in the 18th century. However, the war in 1881 and the big earthquake of 1940 led to its decline in charm. Meanwhile, the construction of the railroad in 1870 propelled Barranco to become one of the city’s most attractive neighborhoods, particularly between 1940 and 1960.
Barranco exudes a distinct ambiance compared to the Lima Center, with its residential houses, art galleries, studios, and restaurants instead of large offices. The district comes to life at around 10 am when the shops open. Therefore, we could begin our three-hour photo walk as early as 7 am to capture images with minimal crowds or start in the afternoon around 3 pm when people come to savor the neighborhood and the bay view, even on hazy days.
